After being present at many births I can often see that when fear dominates the whole process of labour and birth it brings about a range of physical and emotional problems for the woman, her birthing partner and, ultimately, their baby.
Of course it is natural and normal for negative thoughts and fears to arise. What is important is to recognise this and then choose a different perspective, thought or way of managing the situation.
Research shows that the presence of a calm, loving, encouraging birth partner makes a big positive difference to the labour and birth journey. Do not underestimate the power of love!
