I don’t know about you, but it has been more challenging for me to communicate with people whilst wearing a mask. Our full faces express so much to those we are with.

Whilst working on the Birth Centre yesterday I realised that I needed to be more expressive with my eyes, my words, my tone of voice and body language to be able to extend support and encouragement to those in my care and those I work alongside. Also, acknowledging the power of a simple touch to say ‘You are okay’ ‘You can do this!’ ‘You are amazing!’

The presence of the woman’s birth partner in labour has a huge positive impact on the physical and psychological journey for the woman. This is proved by research! So, birth partners, be encouraged that your loving, calm presence really does make a difference – with or without a mask!
